The Lebanese Information Center and Christian Solidarity International hosted a conference on human rights abuses in Lebanon on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the National Press Club in Washington DC.

The conference, titled “Lebanon: An Imprisoned Nation,” focused on the current state of Human Rights and political freedom in Lebanon and highlighted in particular the case of Lebanon’s most prominent political prisoner, Dr. Samir Geagea.

The panels at the conference included witnesses from Europe, Lebanon, and Australia, as well as the following Human Rights Organizations:

  1. Amnesty International

  2. Freedom House

  3. The Jubilee Campaign

  4. The Institute on Religion and Public Policy

  5. The Foundation for Human and Humanitarian Rights - Lebanon

  6. Cedarwatch - Australia

Preceding the conference was an exhibit that showcased the torture techniques used at the Lebanese Ministry of Defense as well as other violations of Human Rights in Lebanon.  The focal point of the exhibit was a replica of the cell in which Dr. Geagea has spent over a decade in solitary confinement.  Guests at the conference were invited to walk into the replica cell to get a feel of the suffocating confinement Dr. Geagea is enduring.
