DR. SAMIR GEAGEA'S REMARKS
CHAIRMAN OR THE LEBANESE FORCES PARTY
CEDAR REVOLUTION COMMEMORATION EVENT
UNITED STATES CONGRESS
March 13, 2008
Mr. Chairman,
Honorable members of Congress,
Members of the Congressional Staff,
Members of the Media and institutes,
Lebanese- American friends,
Distinguished Guests,
It is no coincidence at all that a
freedom tale is being told at this place
today, here in the United States capital,
the freedom tale comes this time from
Lebanon, the Lebanon of the Holy Bible.
It is a fairy tale about a small group of
people who struggled and fought across the
ages and time again to preserve their
freedom in the face of the big Empires of
time. And they did so, albeit with huge
sacrifices.
And history repeated itself, and the tale
came to life again at the end of the 20th
century / the beginning of the 21st century.
Starting at the dawn of February 2005, the
Dragon stroke in despair, slaughtering our
heroes: Rafic Hariri, Bassel Fleihan, Gibran
Tueini, Pierre Gemayel, Walid Eido, Antoine
Ghanem, and many others..
Our ancestor’s soul was offended, and it
blew again, taking a million people, a full
quarter of our population, to the streets.
And the dragon was vanquished once more, and
Syria retreated its military might from
Lebanon.
It is a fairy tale from the country of
Cedars, where heroes abound. But this time,
heroes from all over the free world
participated, making the tale a victory for
all mankind.
Thanks to you the American people, thanks
to you the United States Congress, thanks to
you Washington.
In the name of all Lebanese, we express
our full gratitude to the American people
and the American Government for their
commitment and support to Lebanon.
Lebanon is the projection of the free
world values into the Arab World. This is
why it’s being confronted.
Lebanon is the hub of freedom in the
area, this is why it’s being targeted.
Lebanon from the beginning was the
“letter”. This is why it’s being aggressed.
But because this is who we are, we will
continue to walk tall in the world, and to
remain the freedom fighters in the Middle
East.
Ladies and gentlemen,
It is an honor and pleasure to be among
you today to celebrate the 3rd anniversary
of our Cedars’ Revolution. I can assure you,
assure the Lebanese people and all
freedom-loving people, that we will not rest
until the establishment of a free,
sovereign, democratic, modern, and
prosperous Lebanon. The road may yet be
long, but our determination and perseverance
will outlive this ordeal, and one day, we
will all witness victory to our Cedar’s
Revolution, Victory to the Lebanese People.
God bless America and Lebanon.
Thank you. |
