LIC on the Assasination of Gebran Tueini
The enemies of a free
Lebanon have committed another hideous crime. Gebran Tueni, a
great man, has fallen in the continuing battle of
Liberty against Tyranny. We cannot find appropriate words to
describe the pain that this barbaric act has caused all of
us.
We are absolutely convinced
that this terrorist act, like all the previous ones committed
lately against pro-sovereignty and pro-democracy patriots, is
the inevitable consequence of the continuous threat posed by
Lebanese and non-Lebanese rogue militias supported by Syria
and Iran, the total lack of border control on the
Syrian-Lebanese borders, the flourishing of outlaw islets
outside the Lebanese State’s authority, and most importantly
the persistent interference of the Syrian Regime in Lebanese
affairs.
We can only hope that the
Lebanese Government, political leaders, civil and religious
figures are shaken enough by the murder of Gebran Tueni to
have the courage and decency to stand united and fight the
terrorist war launched against Lebanon by the Syrian State.
Today’s tragedy could be the
last for Lebanon, if, and only if, the majority of the
Lebanese put the national interests of Lebanon ahead of any
sectarian belonging or regional tutorship. It is about time
this bleeding stopped. Gebran Tueni is an irreplaceable
Lebanese who inspired us by his relentless pursuit of
freedom. We pray that his death will be the last costly
installment for the liberty of Lebanon.
