The Hudson Institute and the Lebanese Information
Center Jointly Host a Foreign Policy Discussion on
Lebanon - January 5, 2007.
The Hudson Institute and the Lebanese Information Center
(LIC) hosted a foreign policy discussion titled,
“Keeping Lebanon’s Freedom and Democracy Alive: Can
Iranian and Syrian Schemes be Stopped?” at the Hudson
Institute headquarters on Thursday, January 4, 2007.
The event was attended by a large number of scholars,
government officials, members of the press corps and
other interested individuals.
After the welcoming and introductory remarks by Dr.
Meyrav Wurmser, Senior Research Fellow at the Hudson
Institute, and by Dr. Joseph Gebeily, President of (LIC),
three distinguished panelists discussed the ongoing
attempt to reverse the accomplishments of the Cedar
Revolution by a minority of anti-democracy Lebanese
groups with ties to Iran and to Syria.
Mr.
Adib Farha, Senior Policy Adviser of LIC and of the
American Lebanese Coalition, presented an overview of
current events in Lebanon and Iran’s role, through its
ally and client Hezbollah, in the ongoing
counter-revolution attempt. Mr. Tony Badran, Research
Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracy,
discussed the Syrian role and its scheme to restore its
suzerainty over Lebanon. General Thomas McInerney USAF
(ret.), Military Analyst for Fox News, discussed U.S.
diplomatic and military options for dealing with the
threat to international stability and to Lebanon’s
democracy that Iran and Syria represent.
A vibrant and insightful discussion followed.
